The Tree House Toy Shop is a family owned and operated business. We are located in scenic Western Maryland at the terminus of the C&O Canal. The Tree House Toy Shop was born out of a desire to share with others toys we believe in and have cherished over the years. Owners, Heiko and Margy Pein, have long held the belief that “play is the work that children do.” Therefore, many of the toys we offer at the Tree House Toy Shop are ones that are educational, require the power of imagination, and can be enjoyed by generations to help build strong families and lasting memories. 

Creating a “comfort zone” for kids of all ages was a high priority for Tree House Toy Shop.  Bringing a collection of toys to Cumberland that otherwise was only available on the Internet or by driving “downstate” was equally important. 

“Toys allow us to be children and create our own individual playground of make believe, that parallels the real world we must deal with.  I hope to always find that hidden part of me that refuses to grow-up. What better reason to open a toy shop?” explains Margy Pein. 

The Shops at Canal Place offered the perfect setting for a lifelong ambition of owning a family business.  We are firm believers in the future of our community and we are proud to be a part of the growth and development of our heritage areas. The continued support from loyal customers in the tri-state area has kept the store busy year round. 

Customers are encouraged to signup and receive mailings for scheduled events throughout the year, including Pirate Day, Digging at Canal Place, Wake Up Bears, It’s Spring, Teddy Bear Picnic and Letters to Santa.

The Pein family strives to offer a variety of familiar and unique toys, including Brio, Playmobil, Slinky, Hohner, Gund, Lauri and more. Personal service is our first priority.  We offer shipping, special orders, layaway and free gift-wrap.
